As a blogger, you need to create regular content to keep your site active and engage your audience. But how? Inspiration doesn’t strike every day. How do you keep finding new content to write about and stay motivated? Where do you find new blog content inspiration as a Christian blogger?
11 Blog Content Inspiration Ideas for the Christian Blogger
1) Read and study your Bible.
Stay in God’s Word on a regular and frequent basis. Don’t just study as research for blog posts or books, but study for you. As you are filled with the Word, listen for lessons God is teaching you. Some of these will be for you alone – personal lessons you need to hear that may not yet be ready to share with the world. Other insights will be ready to share, once you’ve had the time and space to process through them in your own life.
2) Read other study guides and devotionals.
Read, read, read. Read first to be filled yourself, but if something grips your heart, stop and dig deeper. Journal or study what it means for you and consider if it’s something you could also write about.
- Use a single statement, quote, or idea and expand upon it using examples from your own life.
- Use what you read as inspiration and write a similar study using a different verse or reference.
- Write a review of the book.
3) Consider your own prayers and struggles.
Read through your journals. Think over your prayers. Where are you leaning into God or wrestling with an issue? How can you write from that place to encourage others? If your current struggles are too fresh to share, look back through your life at where you struggled and what you learned. How can your journey be an encouragement to others?
4) What concerns or questions are you hearing from your readers?
What are your readers posting on social media? What questions are they emailing to you? What’s in their blog comments? Pull out phrases, questions, ideas in their own words and brainstorm blog topics.
5) Ask your readers about their concerns and struggles.
At least once a year, run a reader survey and include open-ended questions to ask about their greatest needs or struggles related to your topic areas. Ask a question in an email or Facebook post and ask readers to respond. Use this to brainstorm blog post topics.
6) Look at your most popular posts.
What are some related ideas you can write about? How can you expand on the topic or write from a different angle?
7) Take your key content categories and brainstorm on each.
Review your key content areas and make a list of every topic or question that comes to mind. Which ones do you think would interest your readers and which ones are you passionate to write about?
8) Look at the calendar for seasonal topics.
Are there any holidays, life events or seasons (graduations, summer, back to school, etc), or church seasons (Lent, Pentecost, Easter, Advent, etc.) you can write about?
9) What song is running through your head this week?
Is there a song that’s speaking to your heart? Maybe something from the radio or something from church on Sunday? Use the lyrics as inspiration.
10) Take some time for yourself and let God inspire you.
Go for a run or walk, take a long bath, or just sit in the silence. Allow God to speak into your heart. Pray and ask him to inspire you. Then, listen for any words he places on your heart.
11) When all else fails, just write. Don’t wait to be inspired.
Just sit down and out words on paper. You might throw most of it away, but the act of writing will generate more ideas. Start with what’s on your heart. Or journal about a verse in the Bible or a book you’re reading. The most important thing is to just keep writing.
